Doris (Culbertson) deFrancesco, 89, of Brandywine Assisted Living at Litchfield, The Sarah Pierce Community, died July 22, 2009, in Torrington. She was the wife of Michael J. deFrancesco.

Mrs. deFrancesco was born June 14, 1920, in Derby, daughter of the late Ralph and Gertrude (Hannigan) Culbertson, and lived in Cheshire, most of her life.

Her enthusiasm for life began early as a cheerleader and continued with her secretarial career. She worked for the Board of Nursing Examiners, Chance Vought Aircraft in Dallas and, later, Bridgeport Brass.

After she married her husband and had Laura, she enjoyed being at home. She later returned to secretarial work, first in the Cheshire school system and later at the Cheshire and Bristol Insurance Agencies.

Mrs. deFrancesco was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, having served as a deacon and choir member. She also sang with the Cheshire Community Chorus and the Sweet Adeline's.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Laura McLaughlin, and her husband, George, of New Milford; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Culbertson; and a sister, Betty Jane (McBride) Lintzner.

The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
