The collection of items is under way for the ninth annual Tree of Warmth on display at New Milford Town Hall.

Mayor Pat Murphy's office said donations of children's hats, gloves, mittens and scarves are sought. They would be neatly hung on the tree by the mayor's office staff.

Items will later be distributed to local families in need through the town's Social Services department.

Donations may be dropped off at the mayor's office Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition, monetary donations are sought for the Community Fuel Bank of New Milford, which assists low- and fixed-income families and seniors in the community.

The assistance provides for emergency fuel delivery or continued electric service to safely keep their homes warm during the cold winter months.

Donations may be acknowledged with a name on an ornament to be placed on the tree.

Checks may be made payable to the Community Fuel Bank of New Milford and dropped off at the mayor's office.
