An overflow audience at Mallory Town Hall witnessed a transition of power recently in Sherman.

The Dec. 28 swearing in of the town's Board of Selectmen was highlighted by the debut of First Selectman Clay Cope.

The Republican was elected Sherman's first selectman in November, defeating four-term incumbent Democrat Andrea O'Connor in a race requiring a recount to determine the final margin, 674-661.

After initially announcing she would not serve on the board, Ms. O'Connor remains on the three-person Board of Selectmen with Mr. Cope and fellow Democrat Chris Jellen.

Town clerk Carol Havens did the honors Dec. 28, swearing in Mr. Cope, Mr. Jellen and Ms. O'Connor, each to two-year terms that began Jan. 1.
