Congregational church reopens sanctuary
The sanctuary at irst Congregational Church in New Milford is ready for parishioners and others wishing to attend worship services.
Scaffolding necessary for repair work has recently been dismantled and removed, leaving only the steel beams in place.
"The church is indeed open," said Becky Passero, director of Christian education at the historic church on the Village Green, "and an important functioning member of the New Milford community."
The church's "Welcome Back Sunday" will be this Sunday. Worship will be at 10 a.m. and church school from approximately 10:30 to 11:30am, followed by a luncheon.
A sagging beam in the attic of the church had caused church officials to close the sanctuary in November, 2012.
