Cancer Center to get a facelift

A $30,000 grant from the Lawrence J. Portell and Natalie D. Portell Foundation will be used to remodel the patient reception area at the New Milford Regional Cancer Center.

New furniture, lighting and carpeting will greet patients as they enter the center at New Milford Hospital this fall.

Hospital official were thinking about remodeling the area for at least a year, said Victoria Lowrey, executive director of the New Milford Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of the hospital.

The grant will allow the hospital to purchase sturdy furniture with metal reinforcing its wooden legs and replace the existing carpet with resilient, stain-resistant carpet tiles. New lights will be installed to brighten the room. The work should be completed by the end of November, Ms. Lowrey said.
