Brookfield warns against using out-of-state tree removal companies
Brookfield officials are warning residents to be cautious about using out-of-state tree removal companies as many continue to clean up following tropical storm Isaias.
At least one company from out of the area is traveling around town, offering to remove trees from people’s properties; however, no tree company from out of town has received the proper permits to solicit door to door, town officials cautioned in a message to residents.
“It is illegal to solicit business without a permit from the town,” the message said. “We urge residents to be very careful in dealing with these firms, as we do not know if they have insurance, if they have quarantined for 14 days before coming to Brookfield or what experience they have.”
Residents should have anyone who knocks on their door looking for business show their town permit. If the company is unable to do so, residents should not do business with them and report them to the police department by calling 203-775-2575, officials said.
