Republican Jim Brinton will be Washington’s new first selectman, defeating Democrat Michelle Gorra.

His victory was reaffirmed with this week’s recount, which was triggered because the margin was so close between the two first selectman candidates.

The results essentially remained the same with Brinton’s count staying at 732 votes and Gorra dropping one vote to 714 votes.

Neither is an incumbent.

Both candidates received more votes than the Republican selectman candidate Sarah Gager, who got 688 votes, which means Gorra will join the board as a selectman.

Brinton and Gorra will be joined on the Board of Selectmen by Democrat Jay Hubelbank, an incumbent, who received 727 votes.

All of the elected candidates will be sworn in at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Bryan Memorial Town Hall.
