ANSONIA — Police are searching for an individual who robbed a group of people at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the robbery occurred around 12:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Target at 20 W. Main St.

The victims were supposed to complete an online transaction at the parking lot, but were robbed at gunpoint when they arrived, police said.

Police described the armed individual as a light-skinned black male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue mask. After robbing the people, the man escaped in a light-colored sedan with tinted windows driven by a second person, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information is asked to call the Ansonia Police Department at 203-735-1885, or tips can be left anonymously through TIP 411.

Lt. Patrick Lynch reminded residents that online transactions at unsecured meet-up points can be “potentially dangerous.”

“The Ansonia Police Department has a meet-up spot directly in front of the police facility at 2 Elm St. and the public is welcome to use this spot to complete their transactions,” Lynch said.
