Alice L. Gakeler, 86, of New Milford, formerly of Bethel, died July 15, 2009, at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the wife of Jack A. Gakeler.

Mrs. Gakeler was born in Bethel, daughter of the late Martin and Frances (McLaughlan) Howley.

She attended Bethel schools and had worked as a secretary for the Barden Corporation, as well as the R.A. Boehm Company, for many years.

Mrs. Gakeler had been a longtime member of St. Mary Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Alice L. Taylor and her husband, Thomas, of New Milford; and a son, John Gakeler and his wife, Jennifer, of North Syracuse, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Thomas Taylor, Christopher Taylor and his wife, Paula, and Ryan and Evan Gakeler; six great-grandchildren, Tommy, Patrick, Kelly, Eli, Kimi and Scott; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.

The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
