For decades, trees in New Milford, particularly those in the village center, were the joy and passion of Phil Lovell's life.

Mr. Lovell died in January at age 86 but his legacy lives on in his adopted hometown.

A living symbol of the town's apprecaition for hs many years as tree warden and his other contribtions now stands on the front lawn of the Richmond Citizen Center along Main Street.

Donated by Emmons Tree Service, a young October Glory sugar maple was dedicated Sept. 21 in Mr. Lovell's memory during a ceremony attended by members of his family, friends, town officials and Shawn Emmons

of Emmons Tree Service.
