The host New Milford High School band performed "Perilous Skies," yet Mother Nature treated thousands in attendance at Saturday evening's band and color guard competition to anything but.

Crisp, clear weather greeted teens from eight visiting schools as NMHS band director Jonathan Grauer and color guard director Seemi Soni and their charges hosted their seventh annual Musical Arts Conference Show.

The touted NMHS band, performing in a non-competitive format as the show host, took center stage when it played "Perilous Skies," consisting of "To Tame Perilous Skies" by David Holsinger and "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber.

The show competition resulted in Bethel capturing Class II, with Brookfield and Somers, N.Y. deadlocked for second place, and Newtown edging Brien McMahon of Norwalk for Class II laurels.
