The Gregory James Gallery in New Milford will open a show featuring works by plein air artists Christopher Magadini and Thomas Adkins with a reception Oct. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The show will run through Dec. 31.

Mr. Magadini's artistic style is often referred to as contemporary Impressionism, although much of the artist's work evokes the naturalism of 19th-century American landscape painting.

New landscapes by the Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., resident will be unveiled at the show, many of them executed on a larger-than-usual scale.

Mr. Adkins, a contemporary painter of the New England landscape, has developed his own style and technique from early influences of Impressionistic painters who captured light on nature.

Mr. Adkins, a resident of Southbury and Maine, composes small, color sketches and studies on location that are later translated to larger canvases in the studio.

The gallery is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays and evenings by appointment.
