Mary VanValkenburg, 84, had worked at Kent Center School
Mary G. VanValkenburg, 84, of Kent, died Oct. 9, 2009, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Clarence VanValkenburg.
Mrs. VanValkenburg was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Kent, to Andrew and Zofia Gawel.
She attended Kent Center School and was in the first graduating class of Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
Mrs. VanValkenburg worked for the former Berkshire Transformer Corporation for many years until her retirement. Most recently she worked in the lunchroom at Kent Center School.
She was involved with the recycling program for the Kent Center School Scholarship Fund and Box tops for Education.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Kent, where she played the organ in earlier years.
She leaves one son, Michael and his wife, Mary Ann, of Kent; and two grandchildren, Emily and Garrett VanValkenburg, also of Kent; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Victoria.
