Mary Knipple, 74, had been tax assessor in Sherman
Mrs. Knipple was born Jan. 16, 1935, in Albany, N.Y., daughter of the late Donald J. and Mary Alice (Daly) Lang.
A resident of Sherman since 1968, after moving from Danbury, she was the tax assessor for the town of Sherman for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
Mrs. Knipple was a volunteer at the Senior Center in Sherman, a longtime den leader for the Cub Scouts, and a fan of women's basketball, especially the UConn Huskies.
She enjoyed her many trips to Cape Cod and traveling with her husband throughout the United States. She also enjoyed walking the track with friends at Sherman's Veterans Field.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by four sons, William F. Knipple Jr., Kenneth J. Knipple and his wife, Debbie, Ronald M. Knipple and his wife, Lisa, and Michael A. Knipple and his wife, Stephanie; a brother, Donald J. Lang Jr. and his wife, Dee Dee; two sisters, June Nichols and her husband, Bruce and Carol Glaz and her husband, Tom; 10 grandchildren, Taryn, Kevin, Michelle, Karl, Amanda, Dylan, Kimberly, Krystal, Katie and Kirsten; and several nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
