Lillian M. Pendergast, 82, lived in New Milford

Lillian May Pendergast, 82, of New Milford died Oct. 9, 2009, at Danbury Hospital.

She relocated to New Milford in November 2007 and resided at Butter Brook Apartments.

Ms. Pendergast was born May 11, 1927, in Buchanan, N.Y., daughter of the late Bertram and Lulu Matthews. She was raised in the Methodist faith.

She spent her early years in Peekskill, N.Y., living, working, and raising her family. She was employed at Frank & Lindy Plumbing & Heating in Yorktown Heights for many years as an administrative bookkeeper.

Ms. Pendergast moved to Dallas in 1983, taking a position as head bookkeeper at Presbyterian Hospital-Dietary Department.

She relocated to Bennington, Vt., with her daughter in 1994, where she worked at The Magic Sleigh until her retirement in 2004. She also volunteered at Southwestern Vermont Hospital during this time.

Ms. Pendergast is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Tim Herrington, of New Milford; a son, David Pendergast, of Yonkers, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Landry, of New Fairfield; a grandson, Joshua Pendergast; a sister, Hannah Costable, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, is handling arrangements.

A service of remembrance will be held at The First Congregational Church, 36 Main St., New Milford, tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. This service will be officiated by the Rev. Michael J. Moran.
