The Kent Firemen's Fair will be held Aug. 27-29 at the fairgrounds off South Main Street in Kent.

The event is sponsored by the Kent Volunteer Fire Department in cooperation with Rainbow Amusements.

The fair will be open Aug. 27 from 6 to 10 p.m., Aug. 28 from 6 to 11 p.m. and Aug. 29 from 5 to 11 p.m.

Highlights of the fair will include a parade Aug. 28 at 6:45 p.m. and a fireworks display later that evening at 9:30 p.m. A rain date of Aug. 29 is set for the fireworks.

New to the fair this year will be a lumberjack exposition featuring Shannon Strong each night at 7 p.m.

A dog show will be offered Aug. 28 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Three divisions will be available for small and large dogs: grooming, obedience and agility.

In addition, a freestyle section will be available, offering dogs a chance to demonstrate a particular talent.

Admission to the dog show is $1 per spectator and $5 per dog.

All participants will be presented with a ribbon and the top three places in each division will win ribbons.

Other offerings will include a dunking booth, a variety of games, the sale of white elephant items, live music, a cake booth, a cash blower game, a replacement for the previously banned money wheel, and a frog jumping competition to be held Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.

The frogs will be judged in two categories -- bullfrog and regular frog. Children are asked to bring their own frog contestants.

Admission will be based on a graduated scale. Patrons who attend the fair Aug. 27 will be charged $5 but will have free admission for the other two days. Patrons who attend Aug. 28 will be charged $4 and will have free admission Aug. 29. Patrons who attend Aug. 29 will pay $3.

A family night will be held Aug. 27 and Aug 29. Bracelets for amusement rides will be sold for $20 at the ticket booth.
