The Morrison Gallery in Kent will open an exhibit of new major mixed media by contemporary Litchfield County artist Jonathan Perlowsky July 25 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

The show, which will run through Aug. 23 at the 8 Old Road gallery, will feature key works from the artist's three-decade career.

Mr. Perlowsky began to paint in his teens and rapidly received the kind of recognition that culminated in a first solo exhibit in 1981 at the age of 28.

Held at SoHo-based Westbroadway Gallery, it was the first of five solo shows there.

It was during this era he introduced mirror, glitter and Day-Glo pigment to minimalism, which foreshadowed a genre that continues today in the work of contemporary artists such as Anselm Reyle and Imi Knoebel.

The exhibit may be seen Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
