Kent Library announces programs

The Kent Memorial Library has announced its offerings in the coming days.

-Joe Baxer will discuss his recent trip to South Korea to participate in the 39th international plenary of the World Federation of the United Nations Association Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.

Artist Scott Bricher will conduct a portrait demonstration Oct. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Residents interested in posting for the portrait are invited to participate. Names will be drawn from a hat.

An exhibit of Mr. Bricher's work is on exhibit at the Main Street library through Oct. 31.

-Dr. Betty Krasne will lead the fall book discussion group based on the subject of how readers respond to works read in translation.

The group will meet Oct. 8, Nov. 5 and Dec. 17 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the library.

The books to be read will be "Out Stealing Horses" by Per Petterson, translated by Anne Born (2005); "The Yacoubian Building" by Alaa Al Aswany, translated by Humphrey Davies (2002); and "Snow Country" by Yasunari Kawabata, translated by Edward G. Seidensticker (1956).
