Josephine Gawel, 88, was longtime New Milford resident
Josephine T. Gawel, 88, of Richfield Springs, N.Y., died Dec. 4, 2009, in her home.
Mrs. Gawel was born Feb. 19, 1921, in New Milford, daughter of the late Paul S. and Anna Trenka.
She was raised in New Milford and was a graduate of New Milford High School.
On June 14, 1947, she was united in marriage with Frank P. Gawel at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford. They shared a union of more than 27 years until his passing on Jan. 8, 1975.
Mrs. Gawel resided all her life in New Milford until 2006, when she moved to Richfield Springs, N.Y., to be nearer to her son, Frank.
Mrs. Gawel was happiest when she was surrounded by her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson.
She is survived by a son, Frank Gawel, and his wife, Leonora, of Richfield Springs; a daughter, Anna Moore, and her husband, Wayne, of Simpson, Ill.; a sister, Angeline Bilski of Torrington; five grandchildren, Mark A. and Jeffery A. Stone, both of New Milford, Brian A. Stone, of Torrington, Frank C. Gawel and his wife, Linda, of Hermitage, Tenn. and Cheryl Gawel of Silverdale, Wash.; a great-grandson, Alexander Stone of Torrington; and several nieces and nephews.
