'Holiday Hopes' drive to kick off in Kent

Kent will kick off its Holiday Hopes for Our Overseas Troops collection drive Nov. 11.

Items for the drive, which is co-sponsored by Davis IGA and Kent’s American Legion Hall Jennings Post No. 153, will benefit service people in Iraq, Afghanistan and other overseas locations.

Last year’s donations exceeded by 40 percent the number of packages shipped in 2007 and were received by troops in time for the holiday season.

A list of suggested foods, toiletries, clothing and leisure-time materials will be available in front of Davis IGA on Kent Green.

Certain items should be avoided such as lottery tickets, aerosol cans, pork products and glass containers.

Donations may be dropped off at Davis IGA.

The names and addresses of service personnel and their units may be left with John Grant or Gary Davis at Davis IGA by calling 860-927-4093 or with American Legion Adjutant Andy Ocif by calling 860-927-3318.

Donations must be dropped off by Nov. 22.
