The Shepaug Friends of Music has announced the release of a compact disc compilation of holiday songs featuring current and former students of Shepaug Valley High School in Washington, as well as several local professional musicians.

The CD, "Winter's Inspiration," contains a total of 15 holiday songs, including two originals, performed primarily by current and former students of SVHS.

An all-day party to celebrate the release will be held Nov. 14 at Marty's Cafe at 4 Green Hill Road in Washington Depot.

The CD, which costs $15, and copies of the cover artwork will be for sale during the release party Nov. 14 and will continue at Marty's and other select venues throughout the Shepaug area through the holiday season.

Twenty-four tracks were recorded, with 15 of them making it onto the CD, according to Kirk Dulaney, SFOM president.

The goal was to develop a compilation of holiday songs that represented various musical styles as well as a range of talent, with an emphasis on keeping the talent local.

"Many of the performers have been recipients of awards or scholarships provided by the Shepaug Friends of Music," Mr. Dulaney said.

The performers donated their time and talent, as did graphic artist Phil Van Kirk of Infokiln Studio and recording engineer Mark Kaufman of BackRoom Studios.

The only costs incurred were royalties and duplication costs.

"This has allowed us to devote every penny of the proceeds to the goals of the Shepaug Friends of Music," Mr. Dulaney said.
