Foundation brings in $88,000 for diabetes research
Residents of Litchfield County recently supposed the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) by raising more than $88,000.
The year's key fund-raisers included two new events -- a Downtown Throwdown Iron Chef-styled cooking contest between chef Jill Nicolson and local personality Hector Avila, held at Cuisine by Jill Nicolson in Torrington, and a Beast of the Northeast bull-riding competition presented by Let R Buck and Lone Oaks Campsites in East Canaan.
Returning to the fund-raising line-up was the 2009 Northwest Brewfest, presented by The Cork Fine Wine and Spirits.
The season's fundraising efforts for JDRF culminated with the Litchfield County Walk to Cure Diabetes, the local chapter's main event for the year, held at White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield.
