Clifton E. Palmer, 81, a longtime Redding resident, died Nov. 16, 2009, at New Milford Hospital.

Mr. Palmer was born July 21, 1928, in Redding, to Clifton E. and Elizabeth Palmer.

He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II.

Mr. Palmer operated his own insurance business and was a longtime employee of Barden in Danbury.

He served as fire chief of the Redding Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Dorothy Palmer, of New Milford, and their son, David Palmer, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his son, Michael Palmer, of Springfield, Mo.; his daughter, Debbie Cromwell, of Torrington; a brother, Bill Palmer, of Monroe; and a sister, Mary Page, of West Grove, Pa. He was predeceased by two sisters, Florence and Patricia.

Services will be private at the request of the family.
