Bridgewater Fair to be held later this month

The Bridgewater Country Fair will be held Aug. 21-23 on the grounds behind the firehouse on Route 133.

The fair is sponsored by the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department.

Gates will open be open Aug. 21 from 4 to 11 p.m., Aug. 22 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Following is important information about the fair's activities:

nTickets for this year's firemen's raffle may be purchased at the Bridgewater Village Store on Route 133, the Bridgewater Mobil station on Route 67, at the fair and from most firemen and auxiliary members.

Prizes are a 2009 Toyota Prius hybrid (first), a Harman wood stove (second), a $1,500 gift certificate to Scott's Landscaping (third), a Frigidaire freezer and 50 pounds of all-natural beef (fourth), a kayak, vest and paddles (fifth) and a mountain bike (sixth).

nPeople interested in baking must pre-register by calling Forest and Jan Putnam at 860-354-5621 by Aug. 19.

Two lines will be open Aug. 22: one for pre-registered entrants and another for unregistered entrants.

nA Litchfield County Council of Fairs 2009 Contest will be held this year.

The contest is open to all residents of Connecticut, with youth and adult (age 16 and older) divisions.

Participants are invited to make a wind chime in a green theme.

Entries must consist entirely of recycled or repurposed materials and measure no larger than 18x18x18, not including hanging material.

Entries must be received by Aug. 22 at noon.

nPeople interested in submitting hobbies must pre-register by Aug. 10.

nA new contest in memory of Maureen Warner will be a handmade hobby with a red, white and blue them.

Entries will be accepted Aug. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m.

nPeople interested in submitting needlework entries must register by Aug. 10 using the entry blank on page 34 of the fair's book or online at the fair's website.

Needlework must be delivered to the home arts tent Aug. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Admission to the fair is $8 for adults, and $5 for senior citizens Aug. 22-23. Children under 12 will be admitted for free.
