The Sherman Library is accepting donations of antiques, furniture, collectibles, tools, garden items, toys, housewares and books in good condition through Aug. 13 for its Aug. 15-16 rain or shine Barn Sale.

The Barn Sale has been a tradition in town for more than 10 years, although it has not been held for the past two or three years.

The sale will be preceded by a barbecue and best-of-the-barn auction Aug. 14 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with the most unique and best items featured in a silent auction.

Last bids for the auction will be at 7:30 p.m.

Mattresses, upholstered furniture, TVs, computers, VCRs, exercise equipment, lawn mowers, tires, clothing, textbooks, manuals, encyclopedias, VHS tapes and hazardous materials will not be accepted.

Donations may be brought to the library in Sherman Center Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Large donations should be dropped off July 25, or Aug. 1 or 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets to the barbecue and auction are $25 for non-members, $20 for members, $10 for kids 5-12 and free for kids under 5, and may be purchased at the library by calling (860) 354-2455 or contacting Joan Laucius at (203) 241-9006 or at joancat3@gmail.com.

Tickets for the barbecue and auction, as well as donations for the sale, are tax-deductible.
