Shepaug sports earn state recognition
For a 13th time, Shepaug Valley High School has won the state class `S' Michaels Achievement Cup, an award given annually to recognize excellence in overall high school athletic programs.
The cup is a prestigious award among CIAC schools based on overall won/loss record; chemical-free policies/procedures; scholarship and sportsmanship.
"We are proud to continue our long-standing tradition of excellence in athletics," said Athletic Director Matt Perachi, "and we are grateful for this most recent honor."
Shepaug was among the schools to be honored at the annual CIAC sportsmanship summit luncheon at the Aqua-Turf Club in Southington.
Shepaug has enjoyed a successful history of Michaels Achievement Cup recognition, dating back to 1988.
The Region 12 high school has been honored with four overall Michaels Achievement Cup first places (1991, 2002 ,2004 and 2005); thirteen class `S' first places (1988, 1990, 1991, 1993, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2011); four class `S' second places (1989, 1992, 1999 and 2010); and tw0 third places (1997 and 2009).
