Public invited to library events

The New Milford Public Library on Main Street will offer a variety of programs in the coming weeks.

They will include a program for mystery lovers and budding writers with Jane Haddam, Rosemary Harris and Pamela Gasner May 5 at 6:30 p.m.; a program and book signing with Steve Berry, author of "The Paris Vendetta" and "The Charlemagne Pursuit," May 8 at 8 p.m.; a screening of the foreign film "Your Next Life" May 10 at 2 p.m.; a murder mystery party enacted by library staff May 21 at 7 p.m.; "Mystery of the Moon Rocks," featuring a display of NASA moon rocks, May 25 at 6:30 p.m.; and a screening of "Sherlock Holmes" May 26 at 6 p.m.

In addition, the library is accepting registration for children in grades five through 12 who would like to participate in The Stock Market Game, a 10-week simulation that allows participants to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in the stock market.

Students work together in teams, researching and evaluating stocks as they compete for the top spot.

Beginners will meet Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 19 through Dec. 21, while advanced participants will meet Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 through Dec. 21.

Laptops are welcome.
