Holidays to be celebrated in Gaylordsville
Gaylordsville will host its annual holiday celebration Dec. 3-5.
The Gaylordsville United Methodist Church on Route 7 will host its Christmas fair next Friday, Dec. 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Offerings will include the sale of handmade crafts, ornaments and baked goods, a cookie walk, a silent auction and children's activities.
Soup will be served Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Merwinsville Hotel will open its "Christmas in Gaylordsville" celebration next Friday, Dec. 3 with a reception from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Following the opening reception, the historic hotel will be open Dec. 4-5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The hotel will be decorated for the holidays.
Offerings will include story time Dec. 4-5 at 11 a.m. each day; the sale of goods by local artists; visits with Santa's youngest son, Nathan; and baked goods from Mrs. Klaus' bakery.
A $10 donation is requested, while admission to the events the following two days will be free.
The Gaylordsville Historical Society will hold an open house Dec. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Gaylord Road.
Gifts will be available to purchase and refreshments will be served.
The community Christmas tree will be lit Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the fire department will serve hot chocolate and cookies.
Caroling will follow.
The life-sized crèche, created by the Elsessers, will be lighted Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. at the Elsessers' home on Gaylord Road.
From then on, the crèche will be lit from 5 to 11 p.m. every night except Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's Eve, when it will be lit until 1 a.m.
The Gaylordsville Fire Department and the Ladies Auxillary will host a ham dinner at the firehouse from 5 to 7 p.m.
Admission is $12/adult, $8/child ages 6 through 12, and free/child 5 years of age and younger.
Santa Claus will visit at 7 p.m., followed by Christmas carols and the lighting of the Christmas tree.
Lise Goedewaagen and Peter Flynn will present their wreaths, Christmas and boxwood trees, kissing balls and garlands for sale today (Friday), Nov. 26 through Dec. 20 at World's Best Wreaths Outdoor Environments.
Ms. Goedewaagen and Mr. Flynn will host an open house Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to showcase their wares at the 634 Kent Road site, which will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
