Cocktails & Cabaret to benefit TheatreWorks
Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the home of resident Ted Hine, followed by a cabaret at TheatreWorks at 8 p.m.
Guests will be taken by Kee Limousine from the theater parking area behind the Catherine E. Lillis Building on East Street to Mr. Hine's house and then returned to the theater for the cabaret.
Dessert and coffee will be served during intermission.
In addition to the cocktail reception and the cabaret, a live auction will be held and door prizes will be distributed.
Among the numbers will be previews of upcoming performances of "Almost Maine," "Rent" and next years' teen show "Les Miserables."
Mr. Hine decided to help raise funds for the TheatreWorks building, which was built in 1901 and used as a church, to support the theater and for historic preservation.
"As a member of one of the old families of New Milford, I have a sense of helping to preserve the past," he said.
"The historic value of the theater is priceless. There have been other buildings in town that organizations were unable to maintain and were forced to sell," he explained, citing the former Metichewan Grange building as one example.
"It's always a shame to watch history be torn down," he said.
"Without the building, the opportunity of learning and expressing the theater craft would not be possible."
"So I want to make sure the opportunity is there for others and also help preserve history for New Milford," he said.
Tickets are $50. Proceeds will benefit the building fund, which is designated for ongoing maintenance and upgrades ticket sales along cannot cover.
Sponsorships are also available.
