As they took their bows at their March 2020 live show in Dublin, Ireland, comedic icons Steve Martin and Martin Short had no idea it would be their last for a while.

The iconic comedic duo recalled an old bit from the pre-COVID past when at the start of the show the two would hug on stage, and shortly after, apply Purell to their hands in efforts to minimize their contact in a sarcastic, satirical way.

“Suddenly, when COVID hit, that had a whole other meaning,” Steve Martin said of his segment.

After nearly an 18-month hiatus from the live stage, the jokes may have changed, but the laughs will certainly return, perhaps even louder than ever before. The pair are ecstatic to complete their rescheduled 2020 tour dates, including this summer in Stamford at The Palace Theatre.

The duo will make an appearance on August 26, 2021 at The Palace accompanied by former “Late Show with David Letterman” bandleader Paul Shaffer and Grammy Award-winning bluegrass band The Steep Canyon Rangers.

“The Funniest Show in Town at the Moment” serves as a fresh perspective on comedy from two of the most praised comics of their time. With playful punchlines and self-deprecation from both comedians, audiences are guaranteed to laugh just as much as the comedians themselves.

Working together through the years sparked the start of a friendship like no other between the two stars. Martin Short and Steve Martin starred in comedy films together such as “Three Amigos” (1986) and “Father of the Bride” (1991).

Wildly popular comedian, musician and actor Steve Martin has won five Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award and several others in his career through which he has become one of most famous names in entertainment.

“I always love playing [in] Stamford, I’ve played there many times as a musician, a comedian, the venue is beautiful,” Martin said of his previous performances at The Palace.

Martin has performed at The Palace Theatre’s Annual Gala supporting the Stamford theatre’s arts and education programs.

When asked about his upcoming on-stage reunion with good friend Marty Short, “The Pink Panther” actor said he’s “feeling great.”

“Our shows are very joyful and fun-filled,” Short said of his time touring with Steve Martin.

Short has succeeded enormously since his Saturday Night Live debut more than 30 years ago. He is more recently known for his acting in “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” (2006) and “Inherent Vice” (2014) along with several other notable appearances. Short has also provided voice work for a variety of different film and television productions including “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” (2012) as well as the PBS series “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!” (2010-18) as the lead character.

Steve Martin’s newest brainchild, a television series titled “Only Murders in the Building,” was filmed this year and premiers on August 31. Along with actress Selena Gomez, Martin himself and Short star in the Hulu series.

In addition to their acting endeavors, the two are thrilled to take the live stage once again as both raw comedians and genuine friends. The segments are fresh and unique, and the pair stops at nothing to create an engaging experience for audiences.

“It just kind of keeps shifting, we never say, ‘this’ll be good again,’” Martin said. Short responded, “It’s always fun to keep changing and altering.”
