It’s been 20 years since Wilton Library’s inaugural Ladies’ Soiree, aptly entitled “Old Bag Night,” featuring celebrity evening bags, and the library has been celebrating the women of the community each year since then.

This year’s 20th annual Ladies’ Soiree takes place Thursday, Oct. 3, and for this edition something new is being introduced: a silent disco.

“Since it’s such a special anniversary year, we are excited to offer some unique entertainment — a silent disco,” Courtney Lilly, library development director, said in a news release. “The concept of silent disco was first presented in London at the top of The Shard, and now all that cutting edge fun will be offered right here in Wilton for the night of the Soiree. Women will have a chance to don their high heels, put on their sparkly dresses and jumpsuits, and groove to the beat that is in their heads — because they will be wearing headphones we provide in which only they can hear the music.”

Lilly continued, “It’s a perfect way to bring dancing to those who want to dance and yet conversations can continue easily in the library’s fireside lounge and gallery for those who would want to talk and not twist. Festive dress is encouraged, but of course not required.”

A Delicious Affair will serve hors d’oeuvres, with candy truffle delights provided by Sweet Pierre’s.

There is a new take on the silent auction this year that includes bidding on one’s smartphone at the event and through off-site bidding.

These silent auction items are just a few of the offerings of travel, gourmet dinners and fashion that are sure to entice: library lover and fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker has donated a pair of her beautiful pumps (size 37) from her personal collection; a well-appointed flat in West Central London; a cooking class or private dinner for eight with Wilton’s gourmet chef Heather Priest; personal products from social media sensation and Wilton’s Emily Weiss; and guaranteed access to Wilton Library’s single most fun day — Wizarding Camp — for the winning bidder’s child and friend. There also will be a drawing for a pair of JetBlue tickets wherever JetBlue flies with proceeds benefiting the library’s Robotics Team, Singularity Technology. A few days before the soiree, bidders may visit the auction online.

Elaine Tai-Lauria, the library’s executive director remarked, “We’ve hosted this wonderfully successful ladies’ night out for the past 20 years, where women come together to mingle, munch and provide much needed support for the library. With a ‘thank you’ to Maureen Canary who started this engaging tradition with celebrity handbags, we’ve now come full circle and even have a pair of celebrity shoes in the offing. We’re also adding a bit of flair this year with the silent disco, so I’m looking forward to visiting with familiar friends and to welcoming new ones who will come and check us out.”

The soiree sponsors include Bankwell, Crestwood Advisors, Eco Chic, Georgetown Financial Group, Inc., Olympian Fencing Studios and Tracy Locke. The media sponsors are GOOD Morning Wilton and Wilton Magazine.

Event volunteers include Suzi Eckert, Leti Manuel, Carrie Preisano, Regina Ray, Michelle Shia, Lana Taubin, Erin Thomas, and Kacky Theoharides.
