Country star Thomas Rhett kicks off this weekend’s fun when his “Very Hot Summer Tour” hits Bridgeport’s Webster Bank Arena Thursday. After that, things sort of go to the dogs.

Three Dog Night — the band named for the kind of cold evening when you need three dogs to keep warm — brings “Joy to the World” and more to Stamford’s Palace Theatre Friday. Sunday, Bark in the Park , for dogs and the folks who love them, returns to Stamford’s Latham Park. This festival-like event features activities for pooches — everything from fitness courses to costume contests.

Speaking of festivals, the Newtown Arts Festival kicks off with a concert Friday and runs through Sunday on the campus of Fairfield Hills, the Connecticut Ukulele Festival takes place Saturday at Pequot Library, and the Danbury Irish Festival runs Friday through Sunday at the Danbury Portuguese Cultural Center.

If you like your fun waterside, including live music and lots of food options, sail down to the Progressive Insurance Norwalk Boat Show at Norwalk Cove Marina; it’s open Thursday through Sunday.

Of course there’s stage shows and comedy, as well. “Quixote Nuevo,” a Tejano music-filled reimagining of “Don Quixote,” opens at Hartford Stage Thursday and runs through Oct. 13. The comedic mystery, “Shear Madness,” opens at Ivoryton Playhouse Friday and runs through Oct. 6, and “Cabaret” is onstage at the Sherman Playhouse Friday through Oct. 12.

Meanwhile, comedian JJ Ramirez headlines Danbury’s Ives Concert Park Saturday, and Craig Robinson (Darryl Philbin on TV’s “The Office”) plays Bridgeport’s Stress Factory, Thursday through Sunday.
