HSBC plans to cut 35,000 jobs in the coming few years, spending $6 billion as it repositions its U.S. operations as “an international client-focused corporate bank with a targeted retail offering” in its words.

The United Kingdom-based company launched a major retail banking expansion in Fairfield County more than a decade ago, only to pull the plug on several newly built branches.

HSBC has branches today in Stamford, Darien and Westport with a combined $307 million in deposits as of June 2019.
