Rotary Club to hold shredding event

The Rotary Club of New Milford, in partnership with Secure Eco Shred Inc., will host its annual community document shredding day May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lore's Plaza parking lot on Danbury Road (Route 7 South).

Residents and businesses are invited to bring documents such as old papers, pay stubs, receipts, bank statements, invoices, canceled checks, tax forms, medical records and credit card statements for shredding by the mobile shredder.

Staples and paper clips may be intact.

Assistance will be available to help unload boxes. The shredded material will go directly to recycling mills to be made into paper products.

Last year, 12,000 pounds of paper was collected and shredded, which prevented more than six tons of paper from being added to the landfill, and translated into 140 trees that did not have to be cut down.

Since the event began, 100,000 pounds of documents have been recycled, saving approximately 1,000 trees.

The cost is $10 per standard copy paper-type box; larger boxes will cost a little more.

Proceeds will benefit Rotary Club projects.

For more information or to register if a resident or business has more than 25 boxes, call 860-350-2225.
