Stop & Shop in New Milford has helped raise $1,910 through an annual Food for Friends program.

The money was donated to the Good Samaritan fund to help provide hunger relief to area residents.

A spokesperson for the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, Arlene Putterman, said 60 percent of the funds went directly to hundreds of local food pantries adopted by Stop & Shop stores in their communities.

Forty percent were allocated to regional state food banks.

The Food for Friends program ran in all 392 Stop & Shop stores from Oct. 29 to Dec. 10, 2010, during which customers donated "paper turkeys" representing donations of $1, $3 and $5 at their local stores.
