The charitable endeavors of MVP-SOS recently received a boost from a business happy to help out the cause.
MVP-SOS, a nonprofit foundation which donates to various youth and other programs and organizations in the Greater New Milford community, received $3,000 from Safeco Insurance, thanks to the O'Brien Insurance Agency of New Milford.
"Two years ago, our representative for Safeco Insurance Company told me of a charitable program that Safeco was sponsoring for deserving organizations," said Chris O'Brien, president of the local firm O'Brien Insurance Agency, LLC of New Milford.
"The Safeco program revolves around organizations that give back to their communities in different ways, to better the lives of their local families," he added. "I couldn't help to notice the focus of Safeco's charity was exactly the mission statement of MVP-SOS."
Mr. O'Brien contacted Kevin Dumas, a board member MVPSOS.
"Chris O'Brien has wanted to help our organization from the first time I told him about it" explained Mr. Dumas, "and now, thanks to Chris's hard work, this generous donation from Safeco will help to continue the MVP-SOS Play Bucks program, which directly funds New Milford kids interested in sports, arts and other extra-curricular activities."
Founded in 2004, MVP-SOS is a volunteer foundation dedicated to raising funds for New Milford's community youth "to help create a bright future for every child. MVP-SOS works to ensure that all of New Milford's children have the financial support to participate in athletics and school and community activities regardless of financial resources."
The foundation has awarded more than $130,000 and has assisted more than 1,000 New Milford school children in need of financial assistance.
