'Run for a Cure' inspires large turnout in Roxbury

A veteran area road race standout rose to the occasion on Thanksgiving Day to capture first place in Roxbury's 12th annual Run For A Cure.

Mark LoSacco, 43, of New Milford, earned first place Nov. 22 in 17 minutes and 23 seconds for a 27-second margin of victory over Jeff Sheldon, 32, of Southbury.

Clara Wolfe, 16, who placed eighth in October in the state Class S cross country championship meet for Shepaug Valley High School, edged New Milford High's Emily Day for women's laurels.

Clara clocked 19:48 for 13th place overall compared with Emily's 19:52 effort over a 2.8-mile course featuring a steep ascent on Chalybes Road.

In all 169 runners and another 76 walkers participated in the event.

More than $2,000 in proceeds was raised to donate to the Regional Cancer Center at New Milford Hospital and the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.

The Run For A Cure was sponsored by the Roxbury Congregational Church, the Roxbury Recreation Commission and the Roxbury road race series.
