More than 30 teams of slow-pitch softball aficionados and hundreds more family members and friends converged July 13 to 15 on Washington Depot to play some ball, have some fun and share their community feeling.

The 10th annual Swanson-Horrigan Memorial slow-pitch softball tournament graced the diamonds behind Washington Primary School as a benefit for the Chris and Brian Swanson Technology Fund and the Tyler Horrigan Scholar-Athlete Fund.

The Swanson brothers and Tyler Horrigan attended Shepaug Valley High School and played sports there before their respective deaths in auto accidents.

The softball event featured raffles and lots of delicious food. The theme of the tournament had been created by the families and has been maintained through the event's 10-year run: "You play for the love of the game. ... We play for the love of the boys."
