The litany of successes over the past quarter-century for the New Milford High gymnastics team is lengthy and impressive.

The best part for veteran coach Bethany Mihaly and her young Green Wave is there appears no end in sight for the stream of talent.

The local girls tacked another title banner on the wall Feb. 12 with a convincing championship performance in the South-West Conference meet at NMHS, the team's second straight league title.

Senior Lauren Wright led the way with her 37.5 all-around effort. Her total was built on an eyecatching 9.65 in the vault, 9.4 on the uneven parallel bars, both good for individual wins, and runner-up scores of 9.05 on the balance beam and 9.4 in floor exercise.

Green Wave freshman Mikayla Dumas offered strong support with her runner-up 35.9 all-around performance, thanks to a second place on the bars and thirds in the vault and floor exercise.

Teammate Erica Davidson highlighted her day with a winning 9.25 routine on the beam.

She ranked eighth all-around and Angela Lian was 10th with respective scores of 33.7 and 33.2.

The Green Wave's depth of skill was what most pleased its coach.

"Whenever one person faltered a bit," Mihaly said, "another person stepped up."

Overall, the Green Wave scored 140.5, just off its team best of 141.9 achieved a week earlier vs. Staples of Westport.

Following a tri-meet Friday at NMHS with Greenwich and Wilton, Mihaly and Co. will gear up for the state Class M meet Feb. 28.

The Green Wave girls will host the State Open meet March 7 at 10 a.m.
