Dozens of folks in the Greater New Milford area will be a bit warmer this winter thanks to the efforts of thoughtful student-athletes from New Milford High School.

Members of the Green Wave football team, doing their utmost to live up to their motto -- "100 percent in the community and on the field" -- collected and delivered more than 60 coats last week to the Thirft Mart of New Milford.

The delivery was led by NMHS senior Danny Flynn, juniors Jacob Plancon and Pat and Chris Ryan, and sophomore Andre Taylor.

In addition, coach Larry Badaracco's players collected and delivered more than 20 holiday toys to benefit New Milford Social Services programs.

While at the Social Services office, the players asked director Peg Molina about other projects they could get involved with in the future and volunteer opportunities for the team at the Social Services Department.

"One of the team's goals is to continue to be active in our community," player mother Beverly Ryan said.
