The fall sports season at New Milford High School wound down Nov. 25, 2013 with a low-key sports awards ceremony in the school theater.

On hand to be honored for their achievements during the 2013 autumn campaign were several hundred student-athletes from boys' and girls' cross country, cheerleading, field hockey, boys' and girls' soccer, girls' swimming and volleyball.

The more than 100 members of the Green Wave freshmen, junior varsity and varsity football teams did not attend.

The event was hosted by NMHS athletic director Keith Lipinsky.

He recounted the seasons experienced by each of the programs and announced which student-athletes earned academic honor roll and recognition from the South-West Conference.

Several sports awards ceremony traditions dating back at least to the early 1960s were notable for their absence.

Coaches did not have the opportunity to speak about their teams, and the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player for each team were not introduced, although most teams honored those individuals during respective team get-togethers.
