League and state laurels may or may not come the way of the Green Wave this autumn.

Yet coach Antony Howard's New Milford High boys soccer side is surely going to give itself every opportunity for success.

A 2-0 whitewashing of Masuk on Saturday, Sept. 28, at NMHS and a 1-1 draw at Bethel High on Monday, Sept. 30, lifted Howard's crew to 4-2-2 at the halfway point of the 2013 regular-season campaign.

Through eight matches, opponents had scored just nine goals, while the Green Wave had found the net for 24 scores.

The Green Wave face numerous tough matches, including a date with perennial power Newtown on Thursday, Oct. 3, but the NMHS booters have their fate in their control.

Howard's charges will visit non-league foe Torrington on Saturday, Oct. 5, for a twinbill, in tandem with the Green Wave girls.

Following that, the NMHS boys will dive back into South-West Conference competition with matches Monday, Oct. 7, at Weston and Thursday, Oct. 10, against Joel Barlow at home.
