Shepaug Valley High School senior Sarah Williams will bring the TED experience to Washington with an event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school.

"Each Shepaug senior conducts a yearlong senior project, and I'm using this opportunity to bring the dynamic TED format to our community," Sarah said.

Technology, Entertainment and Design (TEDx) is a nonprofit organization based in New York and Vancouver.

"Its credo is that ideas matter, and its mission is to promote the exchange of those ideas to improve life for all," Sarah said.

TED runs large-scale, global TED conferences and gives TEDx licenses to people such as her to organize local, independent events, she said.

"These events consist of short, inspiring talks, normally revolving around one theme," she said.

"The theme I created is `Discovering Tomorrow.' It's open enough to allow for personalization, and students will be interested in speakers' visions of the future in their various areas of expertise."

Among the speakers will be Shepaug student newspaper editor Dana Walker, Anne Gallagher, Lisa Huber, Eric Kershnar, Drew Bartkiewicz and former state Sen. Andrew Roraback.

Shepaug senior Emily Chin will offer a dance performance.
