Students from The Gunnery in Washington attended and performed at the May 27 Seven Angels Theater Halo Awards in Waterbury.

More than 1,500 teenagers and their mentors from 24 regional schools, both public and independent, attended and performed numbers and scenes from the more than 88 productions represented in the nominations.

Forty awards and several recognitions were presented at the event.

Henry Gough, of The Gunnery's Class of 2015, accepted the Fearless Award for The Gunnery Drama Society's production of "Fairy Tale Ending."

The Gunnery thespians received 11 nominations from the Seven Angels Theater Halo Awards committee for two productions, the play "The Complete Works of Shakespeare, (Abridged)!," staged in the fall, and the U.S. premier of the musical "Fairy Tale Ending" in February.

Highlights of the evening were the production numbers staged by participating schools.

The Gunnery's Gough, Tim Cervera of the class of 2017 and Nick Weinstein of the class of 2014 opened Act Two of the awards with a rendition of the "Othello Rap" from "The Complete Works of Shakespeare, (Abridged)!"

Other highlights included recognition of the work of the drama teachers and directors.

"I am so proud of all that the students in the drama program have accomplished this year," said Jennifer Wojcik, Gunnery's performing arts chairwoman. "Every single person involved in our two productions is acknowledged on the list of nominations."

Kat Carey of the class of 2016 received a special award, the Gypsy Award, which is given to a member of the chorus "who is known in part for his/her dedication, professionalism and seasoned performing career."

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical: Timothy Cervera of the class of 2017 as the Big Bad Wolf in "Fairy Tale Ending."

Best Performance by an Actress in a Comic Role in a Musical: Laura-Delight van Tartwijk of the class of 2015 as Goldilocks in "Fairy Tale Ending."

Best Featured Actress in a Musical: Alexis Nanavaty of the class of 2017 as Troll in "Fairy Tale Ending."

Best Specialty Ensemble in a Musical: Ollie Williams of the class of 2017, Jack Einbinder of the class of 2014 and Henry Gough of the class of 2015 as 3 Little Pigs and 3 Billy Goats Gruff in "Fairy Tale Ending."

Fearless Award: The Gunnery for "Fairy Tale Ending."

Gypsy of the Year: Kat Carey.

Best Acting by an Ensemble Cast in a Play: The Gunnery for "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)!"

Best Standout Performance in an Ensemble Play: Henry Gough for "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)!"

Best Lighting Design and Technical Execution: Nick Weinstein of the class of 2014 and Matt Minicucci of the class of 2014 for "Fairy Tale Ending."
