BRIDGEPORT -- A 45-year-old man was shot in the abdomen Saturday night on Barnum Avenue, police said.
The victim, Julio Castro of Barnum Avenue, was found about 9:30 p.m. standing next to a telephone pole and being held up by a friend, according to Officer Pasquale Speranza, who had responded there to a report of shots fired with a person wounded.
Castro was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment.
A friend of the victim told police they had been at a nearby market together. After the two split up, Castro started walking toward his house. A few minutes later, the friend found Castro, who yelled he had been shot.
The friend told police Castro was shot during an attempted robbery. Detectives are working to corroborate that account, police said.
