To the Editor:
I am responding to Lauren Papp's letter to the editor published March 5, in The Spectrum.
Would Miss Papp explain what was involved when stating, "Our schools are outstanding" and, "Globalization is today's reality and would be irresponsible for our schools to ignore this fact."
The United States is ranked 16th among nations in student tests. How could residents consider our public schools outstanding?
Our Founding Fathers created public schools and their main instruction was, "The censures of the law and the denunciations of religion against immorality and crime."
The result was homes unlocked, no thefts nor assaults. No need for policemen.
This instruction carried through into the 1950s. Cars parked in shopping areas had keys left in the ignition. Homes were open at night. There were no theft of autos nor entry to steal in a home.
The only globalization I have heard about is a slow, progressive move to unite all nations on earth into a globalization unit.
If successful, the United States of America sovereignty created by the Founding Fathers would be dust in the wind.
