To the Editor:

The New Milford Fire Marshal's Office, Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2, the Northville Volunteer Fire Department and the Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the community for their support of our second annual Fire Prevention Day held Oct. 18 at the Home Depot.

Despite the inclement weather, we had approximately 150 people attend the event. It was impressive to see the number of people gathering for the different demonstrations, umbrellas in hand.

We are going to hope for sunnier skies next year so all demonstrations can occur as planned.

The following businesses and organizations donated or lent products and/or were on hand to assist with Fire Prevention Day:

The Home Depot for hosting the event, donating food and the burn building, and for holding the kids' workshop.

New Milford Volkswagen and Paul Ivy for the airbag demonstration; I-95 Radio for DJ'ing the event; Fire Control Service Co., Inc. for the loan of their fire alarm board; the state police; Office of State Fire Marshal & Detective Ken Christensen and K9 Presley for bringing the fire investigation van and accelerant detection K9; the state police Traffic Unit for bringing the Convincer; the Newtown fire marshal's office for the loan of their live fire extinguisher training system; and Candlewood Lake Authority for bringing the jet skis and literature.

New Milford Police Department officers Dzamko and Bollaro for the 911 simulator and poison box; New Milford Ambulance for providing tours of the ambulance; Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 for cooking the food and for tours of the apparatus; Northville Volunteer Fire Department for extinguishing the burn building; Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department for demonstrating vehicle extrication techniques; and the New Milford fire marshal's office for coordinating the day, providing literature, face painting, and Spanner the Dalmatian.

We also thank The Spectrum, the Housatonic Times and Pennysaver for promoting Fire Prevention Day.

Thanks are also due to the schools and all of the businesses that allowed us to hang flyers promoting the event.

We appreciate the continued dedication, support and commitment of these businesses, organizations and volunteers to New Milford's safety.
