NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City police officer who was shot and wounded by a gunman in a Brooklyn apartment is back at home as he recovers.

Officer Hart Nguyen (WIHN') told the New York Post Saturday he was doing OK and "just trying to rest." The 30-year-old, married father was released from a hospital Friday.

He was wounded while answering a call Thursday about an emotionally disturbed man. Police say the man, Andy Sookdeo, opened fire as officers approached his bedroom.

Nguyen was wounded in the arm as two other shots hit his bulletproof vest. The 29-year-old Sookdeo barricaded himself in the home for hours. Police eventually entered and found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Amar Sookdeo told the Daily News Friday his son recently said he "couldn't function."
