New Milford Public Library will be closed Sundays starting May 26. Summer hours will be Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 pm., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Lions Club of Washington will erect a Field of Flags on Memorial Day weekend in front of Bryan Memorial Town Hall. The field will be dedicated to men and women who have served and who currently serve in the military. Residents and businesses are invited to sponsor a flag for $5. Checks may be made payable to the Lions Club of Washington and mailed to P.O. Box 1261, Washington CT 06793. A sheet identifying the person to be honored, their branch of service and the donor's name and telephone number should be included.

The Warren Congregational Church on Sackett Hill Road will conduct a red, white and blue memorial service May 19 at 4 p.m. The service will honor all branches of the United States Armed Forces, people serving active duty, retired veterans and all other veterans and their families. The service is for all denominations. This year, the service will recognize the significant contributions of World War II veterans and the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. The New Milford High School Honor Society will host a Sandy Hook benefit concert May 19 at 2 p.m. The concert at the Route 7 South high school will feature NMHS instrumental, vocal and dance students, along with some other high school students from neighboring towns.

Jeffery Smith, international best-selling author, GMO (genetically modified organisms) expert and the producer of "Genetic Roulette," will introduce the film and answer questions. Smith has worked in more than 30 countries on six continents, and is credited with improving government policies and influencing consumer buying habits.

Brett Leake, the first comedian with a physical disability to appear on NBC's "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno in 1991, will be the featured guest at the event to be held at the Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Ave.

There will be a Girl Scout information night May 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Roxbury. Girls entering kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to attend the event at Minor Memorial Library on South Street.
