Many fine young wrestlers have gone through the New Milford Wrestling Association.

One grappling peer who opted to compete this past season with the Danbury Youth Wrestling Association is 10-year-old Javon Priar.

Javon spent the past school year attending fourth-grade at Sarah Noble Intermediate School and dedicating his athletic talents for a fourth straight season to the DYWA program.

This season, Javon competed May 5-6 in the MAWA Eastern Nationals in Salisbury, Md. having made the cut alongside about 1,400 other young wrestlers who had survived nationwide competition at 34 district sites.

Entered as a fourth seed, Javon went unbeaten to advance to the championship finals.

The New Milford grappler lost his final match but claimed the runner-up spot in the 80-pound weight class.

"To even make it to the MAWA Eastern National wrestling championships is a great achievement," praised his mother, Tiffany Cole, "let alone place in the top two."
